So when we bought our 2026 Prelude here in the Midwest, we had to face the dreaded 'Business Manager' even though I had told them a week earlier I didn't want any undercoating, financing or extended warranties reflected in the previously negotiated OTD price...

But we still had to sit in his office for 30 minutes as he tried to, unsuccessfully, sell us the above add ons.

He really pushed hard on the extended warranty, starting out at $4,100 for an 8 year 100,000 mile, $100 deductible policy, and then discovering a "Costco Discounted price" of $2,100....

I still said no...

Having done my research on Honda Care Extended Warranties ahead of time, I had in hand a Honda Care Extended Warranty quote from Saccucci Honda (in Rhode Island) who would sell me an 8 year 100,000 mile, ZERO DEDUCTABLE warranty for $1,098, even though I hadn't purchased the Prelude from them...when I presented this info to the Business Manager, I got this 'how dare you' look in his face and he grumpily said 'we can't match that' and proceeded to finish up our transaction quickly.

Long story, but, if you are thinking of buying a Honda Prelude, (or any Honda) or even if you have already bought one, you can get a free quote from Saccucci Honda at https://www.saccuccihondacare.com/ and fill out the no obligation, "Find Your Plan" form...(this was for my Prelude purchased in the States...not sure if it works if at all for other countries)

AND if you don’t feel comfortable dealing with Saccucci, and you haven’t bought your Prelude yet, get the Saccucci quote anyway and present it to your dealership ‘business manager’ to see their reaction! HAHA They may just match it the quote!!!

NOTE: the contract prices go up if your car has more than 6,000 miles on it, so sooner is better!!!!!

I wish I had known this back in February (but hopefully it will help others) because that is half of what I paid for a third party warranty for 8 years, 100K miles. It is not a Honda warranty, but the one that my dealership recommends (which I find odd). First time I have ever purchased one, but for a number of reasons — mostly the fact that I was planning to retire next year (which now has become this year after getting unexpectedly laid off in May) — it made sense this time.

It’s not too late.

I volunteer at a community center that helps the underserved. Many are first time car buyers. I can’t stand the idea of someone going into a auto dealership and facing the wolves without help. As a result I help a lot of people buy cars. I have been doing this for decades and have seen just about everything.

You might still have an option. You can buy the Honda backed warranty for a nice discount after canceling the warranty you bought at the dealer. You might be able to cancel your extended warranty for a very small fee. Usually less than $100.

Extended car warranties are actually insurance policies. Insurance policies in the US are regulated by state and are different for each state. In many states insurance policies are prorated. In most states you can get a refund for the portion of the insurance you do not use. Depending on state there may or may not be a small fee to cancel.

I think you are in good shape with this if you want to get the Honda backed warranty for a discount and save some money. I did a quick check online about OH. This is what came up. Please double check everything.

You can usually buy factory backed extended warranties for HUGE discounts from online dealers. The same exact warranty dealers try selling you at full retail. I have helped people buy FCA, Toyota/Lexus, Ford. GM, etc, backed warranties. This source is excellent for Honda products.

Thanks! Just trying to pass along what worked for me...again, everyone should not take my word for gospel and do their own due dilegence.

As a side note to my original post, when I returned to my town, I also presented the Saccucci quote to my local Honda dealer who would be doing all service on the Prelude...she too stated (in a much nicer manner than than dealer I bought the car from) that they appreciated the opportunity, and the best they could was $1419, but she just couldn't match the quote)

AND on one further side note side note, I did receive 2 days ago the official Honda Care Extended Warranty packet from Honda, (almost 6 weeks to the day) along with a card showing VIN, 2034 expiration date and the 100,000 miles...
