Warranty.

I found out yesterday when I picked up my car that not only do I get a 3-year 90,000-mile warranty, but if I get my car serviced at a Honda dealer, that warranty extends for up to 8 years. Wow, I never expected that. Apparently, this has applied since April 2026 in the UK. How does this compare to other countries?

Here in Germany, it’s also 8 years starting in spring 2026; naturally, you have to be a good boy and take it to an authorized Honda dealer for service every year—which I’m happy to do.

It sounds like you owners in the EU are getting a much longer warranty than U.S. owners. Here in the U.S. a standard warranty is 3 years or 36,000 miles for the vehicle and 5 years or 60,000 miles for the powertrain, along with an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty specifically for the high-voltage battery. You can buy a Honda factory backed extended warranty for a additional cost. It is actually an insurance contract. Insurance is regulated differently in each State so there might be some differences. I think a forum member purchased a Honda backed extended warranty for $1200 that covers the vehicle for 8 years and 100K miles with a $0/ deductible.

For me part of the appeal of the Prelude is it is made by Honda in Japan. Honestly I think anything going wrong for the first 8 years/100K miles is going to be very rare considering Honda’s quality control and reliability ratings. Same with other Japanese Brands like Toyota.

Of course, you probably shouldn't read the fine print—there are restrictions regarding the components, and honestly, it’s not exactly pleasant reading (that’s the case everywhere, after all)—but the bottom line is this: if you keep the car stock and diligently stick to the service schedule, you’ve got a worry-free package for eight years. Plus, Honda has always shown itself to be very accommodating in every respect.
