What's your biggest gripe with the prelude?

I watched a US tutorial, and I'm sure there was a way to temporarily turn off the TSR to stop the overspeed bongs by turning it off. I just got home from the dealers and found that there is no such option. It says you can turn off the TSR display; does that do the same thing and turn them off, or is there another way?

European legislation changed in July 2024, requiring all new cars to have an overspeed warning system that can't be permanently disabled. Honda interpreted this requirement rather strictly, so the beeping starts when you're just 1 mph over the speed limit and switching it off 'in flight' (even temporarily) isn't possible....

Thank god you can switch it off for the course of your drive while standing/when the car is in P.

Yes, the only way I've found defeat the overspeed warning bong is to switch off the traffic sign recognition. Trouble is, you have to remember to do it at the start of every journey...

There does not seem to be a setting that says TSR off. Sorry to be a bit thick, but what do you have to do?

Thank god you can switch it off for the course of your drive while standing/when the car is in P.

How do you do that? I have no TSR actually off setting only a not to show it setting.

From the Home Screen choose "Vehicle settings"...

Then "Driver assist system setup"...

Then "Traffic sign recognition system display" and chose "None"...

As far as I know, this is the only way to disable the overspeed alarm on a European G6 Prelude.

Thank you, I will try it out tomorrow on my first proper outing as the weather was crap today and I just drove home from the dealers, it's the first time it's rained for at leat a month, just my luck, looks like it's sun all the way for the next 10 days so hoping to put a few miles on it and get it properly run in. One thing that did surprise me was that it did not have Google Maps; the sat nav looked identical to my Civic, which, to be honest, I don't mind at all. I'm sure I saw a tutorial for the Prelude that had Google Maps; perhaps it was from the US.

At the risk of repeating what I wrote on Facebook, the speed warning beeps only three times when you exceed the speed limit, then it shuts up.
So the solution is to never slow down - so I have been told….

I hate all this nanny state stuff, I managed perfectly well without it for 40 years.

Having driven it all of 60 miles I have found the volume on the music does not get louder to compensate for motorway speeds despite me setting it to high, and the speed limit pickup is very poor, it's ok if I have just passed a sign but it randomly changes for no reason at all, the road entering my village is 20mph the whole length yet for some reason despite passing a 20mph sign, after about half a mile despite not passing any other road signs it suddenly changed to 30mph for no reason and it's the second time it has done it in exactly the same place, which is the wrong speed limit, plus if I leave a road that has a set limit and I enter another road at a junction and there is no new sign it just stays on the last speed limit, all in all a bit disappointing considering the Civic was rarely wrong. It's a shame it's not GPS-controlled; then it might be more accurate. Apart from that, the car is fantastic, and if I had a pound for every time someone asks if it's a Porsche, I reckon I would be a rich man in no time, lol.

I do not have one yet. Have a 23 CRV with a 1.5 and a 26 Sport Touring hybrid. I understand the New Civic will debut in 27 some time and feature the upgraded Hybrid layout which is suppose to generate 10% more power with even better FE. Do you think the Prelude will be getting this also some other upgrades/

A small thing but I wish the alloys lovely as they are were not designed to be a bit further from the edge of the tyre, I live in a very narrow street with parking on one side only reversing into a space is very challenging, so I have bought some lightweight rim protectors for the front two wheels only as I never have a problem with the back ones they are called Rimblades ultra off Amazon, they are black and curved to fit the edge profile perfectly, if you do order any make sure they are the curved design as they also make them to fit flat profiles as well, they give me a bit of peace of mind but they are only a sacrificial layer and won't protect if you really bump the kerb hard.

This Prelude owner compares her Prelude to a Porsche. She said the Prelude is based off of the Porsche 911. Im sure Porsche owners would cringe hearing that. Or have a good laugh.

As I said earlier, my mileage per year is so low, and I only ever keep cars for 3 or so years at most, that the problem won't be mine, but I am a little worried that if it gets out that these engines are indeed ticking timebombs further down the line, then selling it could be problematic. I'm wishing this detail had come out a bit earlier as with hindsight I probably would not have spent a considerable amount of money on something that potentially could turn out to be a problem, Honda are already in big trouble financially due to pursuing EVs that nobody bought, this could be a hammer blow to them, it's a shame as to be honest the Prelude is a lovely car to own drive and look at. Thank God, if I do break the habit of a lifetime and actually keep a car for longer than 3 years, then at least if I get it serviced at a Honda dealer, the problem will be theirs.
