I am considering a Prelude. What did you drive before your Prelude?

Hi. I am considering a Prelude. I love fun driving cars. How do you like your Prelude and what did you drive prior to your Prelude? What other cars did you consider buying? How do you like your Prelude now that you have put some miles on it? What were your main reasons for buying a Prelude?

My previous car was a Hyundai Veloster...

Before that I had a Honda CR-Z...

There was nothing else that I considered instead of the Prelude - I was very happy with my Veloster. But I love the looks of the Prelude and the way it handles. In fact, I think it's the best handling front-wheel drive road car I've ever driven. There are faster, wilder and more track-oriented sports cars and GTs out there, but the Prelude is much easier to live with than most of those: it's well-engineered, comfortable, economical, nicely built and an absolute riot to drive on a twisty road!

I also love the fact that it's a low-volume and rare car that turns heads and starts conversations...

I managed to convince my wife that with two young children, the Accord Type-R would make an excellent 'family' car We kept it for 20 years and it never missed a beat and now the kids have left home. A truely underated saloon that I loved driving and it turned out to be very rare.

Almost looks like an E55 in that picture, at least to me!

Vauxhall Ampera(Opel Ampera/Chevrolet Volt) of all things. Basically a slower, boring-er, more PHEV-ish Prelude that is cheap and a ticking time bomb. Bought it because it was dirt cheap and drives like an EV even when I don't have access to a charger.

I had a Honda CR-Z for 10 years until 2021. After then my wife and I shared an Acura ILX.

I considered a Honda Civic Type R and an Acura Integra Type S but I am a coupe guy and just couldn’t imagine a four door being my car.

I followed the Prelude from the first concept years ago and was pretty much set on it; but the price came in as a surprise. Still, easy decision.

Also, my dog is sensitive to the engine rumble in our current ILX; our dog is comfortable in the Prelude. My wife did laugh a bit at the red interior and wing of the FL5 CTR.

I've always been drawn to cars that are a bit different/schizophrenic.

The Veloster is the only car I've ever seen that has three electric window switches on the driver's armrest! Look carefully and it's a five-door hatch from one side, a two-door coupe from the other...

Cars are a hobby. I like to try all kind of cars. Some of my favorite have been MINIs, BRZ, WRX, GTIs, RX-7s, Miatas, IS300, Corvettes, Wranglers, 370Z, Audi S4, 911s. I found lower power cars can be as satisfying to drive as more powerful cars. Just in different ways. I currently drive a ’25 Golf R, ’04 IS300, Subaru Legacy.

Other cars I might consider are the Nissan Z, Mini Cooper JCW, Supra, C8. The appeal of the Prelude is it is different. I love the Prelude’s style, Civic Type R suspension-brakes, and room for a week long road trip. The CTR suspension and brakes really interest me. I am not sure about the drivetrain and cutting edge tech. I have not driven one yet. I have driven a Civic Type S which is great.

The Prelude would be a fourth car for daily driving and longer fun road trips.

I love the CR-Z. I alwasy wanted one but the timing was never right.

I considered a CTR and Integra Type S before buying my ’25 Golf R. Probably would have bought the ITS if I went with a manual. The CTR drove great also was but just a bit too Fast and Furious for the wife. It was also less refined feeling than the ITS. Excellent car nevertheless.

Great to know your pup likes the Prelude. Our pooch travels with us on our roadtrips. We had one bad experience on a trip. We drove our BRZ to the Tail of the Dragon. The poor pup got motion sickness and threw up half way through the Tail.
