Considering the modest registration numbers—and the fact that it isn't exactly a purebred sports car—there are quite a few examples that have had a bad day (or a bad driver) or simply ran out of luck. It’s a shame about every single one of them. Honda really ought to send experts to inspect the wreckage; it serves as a real-world study on accidents and how the Prelude deforms, after all—data that could be used to make design modifications.

Other cars have unusually high number of wrecks. The MK V Supra has anunusually high number of totaled cars. I mean really high.

I have heard some EV and hybrids cost more to insure. I am assuming it is due to high battery cost? I would not have guessed the Prelude cost more than a Civic Type R.

I think parts availability was part of the problem for a high number of Supras getting written off and totaled.

That makes sense. It is a downside of owning a rare car.

The Supra was made alongside of the BMW Z4. Neither are really rare but lower production for sure. Another low production car was the Fiat 124 Spyder which was made along side of the Miata. The Prelude at 4K units per year for the States might have some parts delays.
