‘Idiot Mark’

Alas, I gave my front wheel rim an ‘idiot mark’ - passenger front, parallel parking. With the low tire sidewall and the protruding bumps on the rim, it is not that hard to do. And yet, I’m fessing up.

I used ‘aluminum black’ to turn the shiny exposed aluminum to dark gray, almost black. Of course it won’t be shiny Berlina black without paint.

We all have done that. . Black is easy. I have used a black Sharpie or parts pen in a clinch to make it less noticeable. It does not have the same sheen or gloss but makes it harder to noice the damage. A body shop can mix up some gloss black paint or buy some touch-up paint at a dealer or parts store. I have even used enameled model paint from hobby stores.

The road I live in is an absolute nightmare it's only wide enough to park one side of the road so you have to make sure the front drivers side wheel bumps up over the kerb at 45 degrees first before reversing into the tight space, I dip the passenger left hand mirror down so I can see the rear wheel as not to kerb the wheel then I have to turn the front wheel into the kerb gently until it touches I then carefully straighten up as close as I can get to the kerb to allow traffic to go down the street, I have lost count of the number of times in the past where I have scraped the wheels especially in the dark, so now I get a set of Scuffs lightweight rim protectors off Amazon they are only a sacrificial layer but it's better scraping them than the wheels, I highly reccomend them for peace of mind.

Do you do preparation before touching up the damage, and if so, what?

There are also wheel repair places. They have mobile wheel repair companies that come out to your car and do the work on the spot. They sand, grind, and spray paint on the spot.
