So this Ai analysis is "very interesting" when it come to 1/8 Mile times and Speeds (so maybe this is why the 'car enthusiasts' don't like the Prelude haha šŸ¤”

I love performance oriented sports cars. They are practically all I buy with the exception of a few reliable daily drivers that get decent mpg. The Prelude is somewhere in between. I would not say the Prelude is a ā€œperformanceā€ car. It is a really fun and enjoyable sporty car to drive that gets excellent mpg. The Prelude has something some ā€œperformanceā€ cars lack. The Prelude has very good steering feel for a front wheel-drive platform. The Prelude is fast enough for daily driving most of the time. I can be lacking for that last 20% of the time when pushed to 8/10th-10/10ths. Not because he car is slow for a daily driver. it’s not. It is lacking because the steering, chassis, suspension, brakes are so good. The steering, chassis, suspension, brakes has so much more head room over the drivetrain. The drivetrain does not make nearly enough power to take advantage of the great steering, suspension, chassis, brakes. It’s like giving someone $1000 but telling them they can’t ever spend more than $500. It’s great but still a little of a let down.

I’m a bit confused. The 1/8 mile speed was >80 mph. So the Prelude got to 60 mph slower than the BRZ/GR86; but then overtook them from 60-80 to win the 1/8 mile? (I’m missing something??)

And the reported 1/4 speed for the Prelude is ~95, so the 2nd 1/8th mile the Prelude gained only ~10 mph?

Overall the appeal of a Prelude to me is not speed. There are so many other cars that are faster and cheaper if you are into that. I would want a Prelude for different reasons. I want something that gets great mpg and is fun to drive. A 2-door that is easy on the eyes. Something you probably will not see everyday. A great daily driver. The great mpg and steering/handling and simulated Shift+ is more the appeal for me over speed. And I get the Shift+ is a novelty.

Depending on who you talk to a coupe is a novelty - I say enjoy your novelty like I’m going to enjoy mine.

I was shopping for a Prelude. I am on hold for now until I do a little more research on this head gasket thing.

Other than boring daily drivers I have owned mostly fun 2-door cars. My current ’25 Golf R is the first 4-door I bought in a very long time.

šŸ˜‚ Ai info...it's wrong more than it's right šŸ˜‚

I did see a YouTube of a Prelude vs Civic Type R drag race. In two runs the Prelude just won and just lost at the 1/8 mile marker... But the driver of the CTR had a questionable launch so I just dismissed the video. My intuitive sense is the Prelude feels fast off the line; w/o any drama (wheel spin). Or course, perhaps I should disengage traction control and give it another try. (My CR-Z with harsh shifts could squeak the 1st and 2nd gear changes.)

I'm not too concerned about HG issues. My issue is with the nex GEN Civic being introduced in 27 a new more powerful engine with better FE is being introduced along with chassis/body structure improvements. And I think Honda will have to add more standard features to higher trims. Vented seats/360 camera? So either the Prelude gets a update or it go's away

It will be interesting so see when and what the ’27 drivetrain is like. I wonder if the new drivetrain is because Honda wants to get the current hybrid drivetrain behind them due to the problem?

In the real world, how often do you accelerate flat out for more than a 8th of a mile? The fact it kept up with CTR means for most people it feels easily fast enough; in day-to-day cut-and-thrust driving, I certainly don't feel short-changed.

Here's an interesting tidbit..
The 2026 Prelude has a faster 0-60 time than a 1981-1982 Corvette šŸ˜€ (Corvette times courtesy of Steve Magnante)

Here is a list of a bunch of cars that have a simular 0-60 as the Prelude. The list is LONG! THERE ARE FERRARIS, LOTUS, PORSCHE, MASERATIS, LAMBORGHINIS, ECT on the list!

Magnum PI’s Ferrari 308 has similar 0-60 performance as the Prelude! Same with the 928 from Risky Business. The Prelude is faster than 007’s Lotus Esprit and the DeLorean from Back to the Future if the flux capacitor is down.

None of those numbers matter. Sports cars are about fun factor and the Prelude has that in spades.

I drive both a Prelude and a BRZ and I can say with absolute certainty that the BRZ is quicker. That doesn't matter because neither one is designed for the drag strip. The Prelude is a great sports GT and has may advantages over the BRZ in terms of comfort and amenities. It is also a real blast in the twisties. The BRZ is designed for speed in the twisties at the expense of just about everything else. It can flat-out snot-bubble cars with a lot more HP on a road course or at an autocross. The GR86 is more tail-happy than the BRZ so it feels quicker but it doesn't track as well. You'll find the limit in a GR86 sooner than you will a BRZ but you'll have a lot of fun in the process.

There are also two different rear gear ratios for the BRZ. The 6-speed automatic has taller gears than the manual. Some of the folks who autocross their automatic cars have swapped the rear gears for the shorter ones that come in the manual cars and they are wicked quick around an autox course. Unless you are Emerson Fittipaldi you will never shift a manual as fast as a good auto with paddles can shift (and the BRZ/GR is a really good auto w/paddles).

I would never mod the Prelude because 1) It's my wife's car and 2)It isn't designed for that. The BRZ is a different story. They are like Lego cars when it comes to mods and OEM and the aftermarket is so full of stuff for them it boggles the mind. Subaru of America also actively supports the modder community. They always have a big presence at Boxerfest and the like. I don't see that happening with Honda and the Prelude but time will tell.

For me the Prelude is "Drive it and enjoy it". The BRZ is "Hold my beer and hand me that wrench."

It is all in fun. The list of times just puts things into perspective about what was considered fast back then and today.

FYI: Autocross has a handicap system so that cars with different characteristics (engines, etc) can compete against one another. The Prelude is newly classified as ā€˜GS’. ā€˜S’ is ā€˜stock’ (only tires can change). A CTR is ā€˜BS’. Here is a site you can use to browse a car’s classification. https://www.scca-classifier.com/a/index.html

Yes. I am aware of that. It is a good system. Keeps it fun for everyone.

The re-geared BRZ's shouldn't run stock but I suspect many of them do.
