I think it is all about people realising that times are changing around the world regarding car emissions. Car companies see this and are making cars that pass those tests. Yes they could make a Type R for North America but how many people would buy it to make a profit. Cars need to be "world" cars now so we have to accept it.
I have a fantastic Toyota GR Yaris and told my 14 Yr old Gt nephew he can have it when I am gone. He isn't interested as he and his sister have grown up with auto hybrid and now EV's. As a teacher my students said they didn't want old petrol cars. Times really are changing for most of the world.

EVs are great if you have somewhere to charge them at home, if like me you don't then cars like the Prelude and Civic make much more sense, the cost of charging an EV away from home is a scandal in the UK, if I was on my way down to cornwall and had to charge an EV it can be up to a £1 a KWh for a fast charger, most are over 85p that just makes no sense to me, it's so unfair that those of us with no driveway will in the future have to pay so much more for mobility, my neighbour opposite has a driveway and tells me it costs him around 12p per KWh to charge, it would cost me 75/100p per KWH, I think I will stick to self charging hybrids like the Prelude.

I agree. I have a Honda e (Honda's first fully electric car) which we use for local journeys. Charged at home it costs 7p per kWh or about 2p per mile, so why public chargers cost up to twenty times as much is a bit of a mystery. Running an EV in the UK only makes sense if you can home-charge, which is very often impractical for people who live in cities and towns - the exact environment where EVs are potentially most useful...

My old Smart ForTwo EQ charging using Octopus Go pretty much broke even on the charging costs. I even had automations set up to precondition it when energy was at negative cost to waste the juice. Moved to an apartment though and it immediately went from a magically free to use always fully charged shopping cart to an annoying potato that was an expensive pain in the arse to fill up. It's a shame as it was quite an amusing car to drive, with its rather basic EV system you could deploy all it's power from 0 and chirp the wheels while embarrassing Golf GTIs and the likes during the traffic light relay races.
I absolutely love EVs but yeah they're kinda crap without a home charger. It's why I swapped to a Vauxhall Ampera, drives like an EV but will get 45mpg even if you never charge it. Only problem is it's old, tatty, and slow. Oh and its stupid aero flaps ground out on literally everything.
