I can also confirm. I loaded up a bunch of audiobooks on a USB stick and was playing it fine. One of the menu items is "USB" and is a player dedicated to the usb port.

Someone mentioned usb format, and you may also have to plug it into the car and let it build a file structure and put the files in a certain folder, I can't recall anymore.

Spotify is great.
But it is problematic as streaming is not always reliable, especially when stuck in heavy traffic when EVERYONE is trying to stream something!
For the last decade I’ve been using a modified iPod classic with 1Tb storage to hold my library of over 11,000 tracks. My Prelude doesn’t recognise it, even when in ‘mass storage’ aka usb mode.
So I am currently using an old iPhone 7 with 256gb storage.
The problem with using an old iPhone for music is that it’s then tricky to also connect a new iPhone for calls and other CarPlay functions such as Waze, which is my preferred Sat Nav.

I need to try a usb stick.
Problem is that all those I have are old usb A. I need a big usb C stick.

Exactly! The more data is on your stick, the longer it will take the system to build a directory. Took some time when I inserted one with hundreds of music albums and audio books, but now it does work perfect & lets me browse/switch through the folders without problems.

You could also use a plug adapter. I use one in my car, because I wanted a really tiny stick with huge storage and only found that (for an affordable price) in USB A. Got an adapter that bends 90 degrees, so the stick does not protrude outwards at all. Very happy with the result. (May post a pic if interested.)

I have just bought 2 USB-C to USB adapters as all my USBs are the old type; they are really cheap on Amazon.

Yes, AI, it looks like I may be lucky after all and be able to play music through the USB port. If the replies are anything to go by, I am relieved, as I find it so easy and convenient. I know most people use their phones or Apple CarPlay, but I still miss CDs, so that tells you how techno I am, lol.

I can play music from my USB stick - in MP3 format. But I can't plug my android phone in and use Android Auto at the same time because there's only one data transfer port. The other is just for charging. I think another thread talked about getting into a back menu to connect an android phone to android auto wirelessly. I've not tried this yet.

I have seen a tutorial on YouTube where they showed how to do it. Maybe have a look for it; it's American, I think.
