I've carpeted over the rear seats, actually the entire rear area. It's an amateur job but good enough for me. Stowed the seat belt receptors, lowered the seats, disabled the rear seat belt detection, cut some upholstery foam to fit the side space (near the door/speakers), stenciled the area and cut a carpet floor mat. Now it is the dog's area or the 'Bandon Dunes' road-trip car.
(Let's hope there is no accident that deploys those rear air bags sending who knows what everywhere - but, it is disabled....)
