Back Seats Down/Gone, For Good

I've carpeted over the rear seats, actually the entire rear area. It's an amateur job but good enough for me. Stowed the seat belt receptors, lowered the seats, disabled the rear seat belt detection, cut some upholstery foam to fit the side space (near the door/speakers), stenciled the area and cut a carpet floor mat. Now it is the dog's area or the 'Bandon Dunes' road-trip car.

(Let's hope there is no accident that deploys those rear air bags sending who knows what everywhere - but, it is disabled....)

Nicely done! The back seat area was my biggest concern when buying because I take my dog with me all the time. I bought mine sight unseen but got to at least see one Prelude in person before buying.

My buddy is a big guy (82 lbs) so he wouldn't clear the back hatch glass with the seats down. Decided to do seat covers in the back and keep the seat up. Note if you do seat covers, you have to cut out around the vent on the front of the seat for the storage battery cooling. Here's my Buddy Roger.

My buddy is a big guy (82 lbs) so he wouldn't clear the back hatch glass with the seats down. Decided to do seat covers in the back and keep the seat up. Note if you do seat covers, you have to cut out around the vent on the front of the seat for the storage battery cooling. Here's my Buddy Roger.

The tiny back seat (and the difficulty of even the dogs getting in and out), was my biggest hesitation — well, other than the cost! — in buying the car as well. I was able to get the rear .seat cover from my Accord sedan to fit temporarily, but I will need to do some “alterations” on it soon so that my guys (2 year-old Chow and elderly 12 year-old Scottish Terrier) can ride along. Thanks for the idea of just cutting away the center bottom (and then I will hem the edges) to expose the vent.

The dogs have only been in the car once in the 5 weeks that I have had it,, so no pics of them in the car yet.)

That’s nothing to be ashamed of, though. Even on a trip with a LOT of highway driving (by someone who admittedly has a lot of trouble driving the speed limit) and part of the time spent on some winding mountain roads in Tennessee really pushing the car to see how it would handle (is there really NEVER any understeer or oversteer in the Gen 6 Prelude?!? Nope!), I got 41 on that tank of gas.

Nice! I have a Chow Chow (who is not a jumper and who refuses to enter the car with the front seat folded forward, so he will always enter the car through the door and climb over the console into the back) and I have wondered if he would be more comfortable if I did something similar in mine rather than having him either in the passenger seat or in the back seat (with a seat cover over it). I already have bolsters that I bought for my Accord sedan to eliminate the floor space in the back of it, but haven’t tried them to see if they even come close to fitting in the Prelude…

He is adorable! My Chow rides in the backseat as well and I cut out part of the seat cover that I used on my Accord sedan to avoid covering that vent. (So glad you mentioned that it *is* a battery vent!)
